My name is Karina Chavez, I was born in Mexico but raised in the U.S. since I was a baby. I graduated from Castlemont High School in 2006. My dream was to attend UC Berkeley but soon after I became pregnant and was pushed towards another direction. After the birth of my son I was once again expecting and I just became lost for the next few years struggling and trying to make it through the economic crisis that hit the nation. Once I was situated I knew that this was the time to pursue my dream. With the support of my husband I started my first semester at Merritt College during the fall of 2012. My goal is to finish my AA in Social and Behavioral Science in the spring of 2015 and to transfer to UC Berkeley to pursue my major in psychology. My ultimate goal is to gain my Master and PH D, to become a psychology professor, and to mentor the upcoming generations.
